Nexus Program

Nexus is a program of activities that is designed to orient new full and part time faculty to state, district and campus policies and procedures. It is also designed to acquaint new faculty with services and support available on campus both for faculty and for students.

First year tenure-track faculty are required to fulfill the agreed number of Flex days for regular full-time faculty (6 days, or 30 hours) plus an additional 20 hours of orientation via the Nexus Program (for total of 50 hours). The Professional Development Office will inform these faculty of their commitments and provide a tracking chart.

Second year tenure-track faculty are required to fulfill the agreed number of Flex days for regular full-time faculty (6 days, or 30 hours) plus an additional 10 hours of orientation via the Nexus Program. This is a continuation of activities shown on the tracking chart.

Required Nexus Activities

Nexus activities are scheduled during mandatory Flex days at the beginning of each semester. New hires attend a 2-day District orientation in August: one day covers policies and procedures; the second day is a bus tour of the District campuses and service area. Faculty will receive a letter from the District Office informing them of the dates and locations. If new faculty cannot attend these activities the first semester of hire, they may attend in a subsequent semester, as long as they are completed by the end of year 2.

There are also tours of the College: a walking tour of the CCC campus (August flex), and a driving tour of the CCC service area (January flex).
