ENTEC 100- Topics in Engineering Technology
.5-3 units: lecture and/or laboratory hours, SC, DG
This course explores current topics in engineering technology, and may be repeated three times. The topic to be offered each term will be indicated in the current course schedule.
Note: normally offered in the Fall and Spring
ENTEC 120- Elementary Engineering Mechanics
3 units: 2 hours lecture, 4 hours problem solving, SC, DG
Prerequisite: MATH 118
This course is offered to Engineering Technology students at "technician level" only. The principal topics of this course are as follows: addition, subtraction, resolution and equilibrium of forces; solution of the force systems by graphical and analytical methods; problems involving machine elements and structural members. Other topics include dry friction, center of gravity, centroid, and moment of inertia of areas.
ENTEC 121- Elementary Strength of Materials
3 units: 2 hours lecture, 4 hours problem solving, SC, DG
Prerequisite: ENTEC 120
This course is offered to Engineering Technology students at "technician level" only. This course will cover stresses and strains on machine elements and structures, and design of beams, shafts, and columns. The approach consists of graphical and analytical solutions to problems of machine parts and structures.
ENTEC 122- Elementary Properties of Materials
4 units: 3 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory, SC, DG
This course is offered to Engineering Technology students at "technician level" only. This course explores atomic and molecular bondings of materials, and examines the importance of mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties of materials. Also included is the study of phase diagrams for ferrous and non-ferrous materials such as ceramics, cements, glass, plastics, rubber, wood, asphalt and composite materials.
ENTEC 220- Elementary Engineering Mechanics
3 units: 2 hours lecture, 4 hours problem solving, SC, DG
Prerequisite: MATH 171
This course is offered to Engineering Technology students at "transferable level" only. This course helps students understand the principles of force systems and their equilibrium, and problems of machine elements and structural members. Course objectives include understanding 1) addition and resolution of forces, 2) moments of forces and couples, 3) trusses, 4) friction, sliding and rotational, and 5) centers of gravity, centroids and moment of inertia of areas.
ENTEC 221- Elementary Strength of Materials
3 units: 2 hours lecture, 4 hours problem solving, SC, DG
Prerequisite: ENTEC 220
This course is offered to Engineering Technology students at "transferable level" only. This course analyzes the stresses and strains on machine elements and structures, and of fracture mechanics in metals. Graphical and analytical solution methods to problems of machine parts and structures will be presented. The course content includes 1) bending moment and shear force diagrams, 2) tensile, compressive, and shear stresses and strains, 3) moduli of elasticity, and 4) bending of beams, torsion of circular shafts, and buckling of columns.
ENTEC 222- Elementary Properties of Materials
4 units: 3 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory, SC, DG
Prerequisite: MATH 171
This course is offered to Engineering Technology students at "transferable level" only. The principal course objectives are:
1) atomic and molecular bondings, 2) mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties, and their importance, 3) phase diagrams for ferrous and non-ferrous materials, 4) ceramics, cements, plastics, wood, rubber, asphalts, and 5) composite materials.
ENTEC 298- Independent Study
.2-4 units: SC, DG
Prerequisite: educational contract of study signed by an instructor, department chair and college dean. Topics must extend beyond regular course offerings.
This course is designed for selected students to pursue independent study in Engineering Technology under the direction of an instructor.
